Names of the Jewish settlements of Novozlatopol national rayon

     1. Of the 13 old Jewish colonies of rayon, 10 have kept their pre-revolutionary names. Bogodarovka was renamed to Novodarovka (New gift, Russian), Grafskaya - to Proletarsky (Proletarian, Russian) and Nechaevka - to Bowery Gorky (in honor of the writer Maxim Gorky). Explanations of origin names of old Jewish colonies are given in the article (Russian) "On the names of Jewish colonies"

     2. A number settlements of rayon had names in the Yiddish language:
      Arbeitgeim (House of Work), Gofnung (Hope), Maydorf (May Village), Mayfeld (May Field), Nayleben (New Life), Octoberfeld (October Field) and Ratentol (Red Valley).

     3. Some settlements are named with numbers of town (poselok).

     4. Some settlements are named with numbers of the plots (uchastok, shortened uch.) on which they were located.
